About Us

Law enforcement officers and first responders have unique jobs, they have experiences that others don't have, and they have mental health needs that aren't "the usual" everyday need.

A Certified First Responder Counselor is specially trained to understand the needs of these heroes, including the importance of confidentiality and trust. After completing the specialized training program, and passing the CFRC assessment, the certification will last a period of one year, and must be renewed annually upon meeting continuing education requirements.

The Certified First Responder Counselor training program and certification are products of Academy Hour, a training provider specializing in mental health and leadership for law enforcement and first responders.

Through her travels, she's had the joy of meeting many amazing officers and responders.

CONTRIBUTORS, REVIEWERS AND STORY-TELLERS

Academy Hour and the CFRC program would like to thank MANY, MANY people who have taken their time and given effort toward the development of this program. Through countless interviews with first responders, law enforcement officers, psychologists and counselors, we feel thorough research has helped to create a truly beneficial program for those counselors who are interested in working with the responder population.  Because of the nature of their work, their stories, and their personalities, we are not able to name each and every person we worked with, but we would like to thank them as a whole group for sharing their stories with us and telling us what we needed to know for the creation of this curriculum.

We would like to thank specifically:

Warriors Rest Foundation - Brad, Brett, Gary & Kathy
Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department (Deputies & Tac Team)
Tulsa Police Department
Houston Police Department
Justice Clearinghouse
International Public Safety Association
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
